Parking Concerns:
It has been brought to my attention that there is an issue with parking at the Marathon gas station across the street from our school. The police have contacted me and asked me to reach out to our families. It is very important that our families, who choose to park at the gas station, are not interfering with the operation of this business by parking near the gas pumps or blocking the entrance of the gas station.
An alternative parking spot can be the parking lot near Community First on Forest Avenue. There is a crossing guard on the corner of First Street who can help students cross. There is also a reserve parking lot at Theda Clark. This lot is located across from our soccer fields on Third Street. If you park in this lot, your child can walk along the sidewalk where he/she will meet another crossing guard to help cross Third Street. If you choose to park away from school and have your child walk the sidewalk to your car, you may want to practice this route with your child and show him/her how to walk along the sidewalk and meet the crossing guard. There is no parking available on either side of Forest Avenue in front of our school. "No Parking" signs are posted.
Parking has been an issue at Roosevelt/Alliance for many years. It is wonderful that we are a walking school and that several of our families live so close. My concern is that the police will have a presence in our area and families will be issued tickets. Families may want to think about a different plan for picking up their children. Be creative! Find a safe, close place to park and have your child meet you there. Work with your child so they know where to go after school is dismissed. Families could even buddy up with another family so that the children could walk together to the planned meeting place! We have wonderful crossing guards that are here to help our students. Let's use their service and build community with our neighborhood helpers!
Thank you for your help with this issue. Our school has such a community feeling to it that I know that we can all pitch in to make dismissal safe for our students.

Alliance Families:
On Wednesday, September 30th, at 6:15 p.m., Alliance will hold a volunteer orientation meeting in Mrs. Connor’s classroom. This meeting is for parents who have not attended an Alliance volunteer orientation before and who are interested in volunteering in the classroom this year. The short presentation will cover the variety of volunteer opportunities as well as what to expect as a parent volunteer in the Montessori classroom.
Important: Parents who plan to volunteer in the classroom or attend field trips must fill out a background check form each year. Before beginning a volunteer routine in the classroom, all parent volunteers are expected to sign a volunteer contract and fill out a background check form. For parents who have attended an orientation in the past, you can pick up a copy of the volunteer contract and a background check form outside the school office or contact this year’s education coordinator, Kelly Ellington. If you have any questions about the volunteer orientation, please contact Kelly Ellington ([email protected] or 450-6398). Alliance classrooms benefit from our parent volunteers, and we look forward to seeing many of you on Wednesday, September 30!

Piano is a wonderful program that cannot run without volunteers. To join Team Keyboarding, please contact Lori Hein

NJSD Parent Connect Convention:
Ever wish parenting came with a manual? Ever wonder if you reprimanded your son too much or not enough? Ever wish your daughter had a mute button? Ever wonder how other parents do it all ... especially the parents who make it seem so frustratingly easy?!?!
We all want to be better parents, have better families, and raise the best kids we possibly can, but sometimes we just aren't sure what we're doing! I'm a pretty good parent, I think, but I could use any help I can get. Good parenting isn't always easy, and we could all learn/do more.
That's why we began the Parent's Connect Conference (PCC.) We created the PCC to bring parents, teachers, and community members together ... to talk, to share, and to learn. This year we have a great group of speakers volunteering their time, and we're excited to bring elementary teachers and parents from around the district together for this year's PCC.
Registration for the PCC is online, and you can link to it HERE, or in the NJSD Quick Links at the district's home page (neenah.k12.wi.us.)
Join us on October 6th, from 5:30 - 7:30, please. We look forward to meeting you. Click here for more information.

Building Security:
Due to security concerns, the front door will remained locked at the end of the day. If parents have a meeting scheduled with a teacher after school hours, they should buzz into the office and Mrs. Akkala will open the door. If parents do not have a scheduled meeting, they should wait for their child outside.
The reason for this is to keep our kids as safe as possible. When the door is open, anyone is able to enter the building while students are still on site. It can create an unsafe situation. This new procedure will also help with the congestion in the hallways while students are getting ready to go home. This procedure will make our building's procedures consistent with the other elementary buildings in the district.
Thank you, in advance, for your help and understanding. I appreciate your continued support.
