MAGNET CLASS FOR HIGH ABILITY STUDENTS: REGISTRATIONWe are in the process of screening and evaluating students who would benefit from participating in one of our Magnet Classes – grade 4, 5, and 6 at Horace Mann Middle School, and grade 7 at Shattuck Middle School. These classes are a component of our Gifted and Talented Program for high ability students. The Magnet Classes serve eligible students from all schools in the District. Students benefiting from Magnet Classes are those who have demonstrated very high levels of intellectual ability and reasoning skills. The Magnet Classes are designed to offer students opportunities to work at a greater depth and/or breadth or at a faster pace than in the regular education setting. High ability students also benefit from opportunities to work with other high ability students in an intellectually stimulating environment. The next step in this process requires the student to sign-up online for the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS).
